How are Washoe County
Divorce Records Different?
Nevada is known as a quick marriage
state . . . and there an equally high number of divorces
on record here. However, much of that can be blamed
on the Las Vegas influence. In the rest of the state,
the rules are a little different, and you will want
to be aware of how that affects Washoe County divorce
records and marriage licensing.
While Las Vegas has made it famous to just walk in and
get married, in the rest of the state you should apply
for your marriage license about a month before you plan
to have the ceremony. You will need to bring any records
relating to previous marriages with you to the application
desk. Washoe County divorce records do not have to be
notarized to be accepted as valid, but it is helpful
if you have your original copy of the judgment with
you at the time.
If you don’t have your original documentation,
you can get a replacement copy of your Washoe County
divorce records. They are available in three physical
locations. You can get them at the County Recorder’s
office, the County Attorney’s office, and the
Nevada Department of Public Health as a part of their
statistical records.
If you are looking for divorce records not for your
divorce but to see if someone else has been married
or divorced, you will need to proceed a bit differently.
You can still look them up in the public record by name,
but you will generally be limited to simply seeing the
date and parties relevant to the case. Detailed settlement
information is generally not a part of the public record,
although there may be property records involved. However,
you will be able to verify the marital status of the
individual in question. |
